VALE 194! A community within a community.

Whether you're looking for a go-to McLaren Vale stay-cation escape, or to accommodate a private multi-family function, Vale 194 is the largest little Fleurieu Peninsula destination estate you need to know about! 

Full transparency, we were offered the opportunity for a two-night stay at Vale 194. We don’t say no to luxury accommodation stays, and after reading this, you wouldn’t either!

My wife and I were thrilled to have stay-cation plans for the first time with our 10-month old son. It would be his first big trip, and our first time out since he arrived!

Arriving to the gates of this McLaren Vale boutique estate left us intrigued.

Key Details:
There are five units on the property. (I say “units” but these could easily be called homes)
Each has the same floorplan: three bedrooms, two bathrooms, (with the master bath having a shower and tub), a full kitchen, living room, side yard and private driveway able to accommodate one vehicle. (I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee and it fit with plenty of room to open doors, walk around the vehicle, and pack in and out)
Where each home is not fully accessible to those with disabilities, the entire first floor does have step-free entry to every room, e.g., Master bedroom, Master bath, kitchen, and living room.

Laundry facilities are also available on the first floor, and are placed thoughtfully behind folding hallway doors that blend effortlessly into the overall home's design. Televisions have been thoughtfully positioned in all the right locations, and armed with free Netflix! WiFi is available and at no cost as well.
Thinking of visiting during the sometimes brutal South Australian summer? 194 is air-con ready!

Or if during a brisk McLaren Vale winter is when you're intending to visit, fear not! Nestled within the mirror-polished aggregate concrete bathroom flooring is a heating system ready to keep any chill at bay after taking that relaxing "bathternoon" soak.

Drive an electric vehicle? Units 3 and 4 have charging stations for guests.
Each house is built on either side of a common gated driveway just off McLaren Vale’s Main Road, giving it its own private neighborhood vibe.
All five homes can comfortably accommodate up to 30 guests! So invite your second-cousin-once-removed and their family from the Gold Coast. There's plenty of room to go around!

We spent our time wanting for nothing – except more time.

The Rest of the Story:
We arrived on Saturday afternoon. Be sure to keep an eye out for the Vale 194 sign on the left if you're traveling from the highway. Turning into the property is only tricky the first time you visit due to being a bit inconspicuous. The benefit to its modest entrance, we realized later, is the privacy we were afforded while in the heart of McLaren Vale proper. We settled into unit 1. It was dinner time so I made sure to utilize the patio grill I eyed earlier when we arrived, to cook a steak and Brussel sprouts. Only then did it feel like I was finally in vacation mode.

We woke up a bit late the next morning due to little bub sleeping in. At 10-months-old, anytime that happens we take full advantage of the extra shuteye. After getting up and out, little man and I decided to take a quick walk down Main street to see the sights while my wife luxuriated a bit longer.
At the top of the driveway I realized choosing to turn left or right puts you only steps away from a delicious local breakfast or lunch at either The Cottage Bakery, or Bracegirdle’s. However, with lunch plans with friends at Berg Herring in Sellicks Beach, only 15 minutes South, as tempting as they were, we headed back; my appetite being spoken for later that day.
In McLaren Vale, ‘later’ doesn’t mean ‘far’. From the 194 base, most of the region’s standout wineries and venues sit within an easy 15–20 minute drive. Chalk Hill, Mollydooker, or the d'Arenberg Cube for instance, are all stunning properties for wines, food, and views, that sit just literal minutes from the Vale 194 doorstep. Proving the region’s best cellar doors, restaurants, and tasting rooms sit close enough to favor spontaneity over scheduling, making it the obvious choice as a great launching pad for the destination wedding or any McLaren Vale getaway.

After enjoying a relaxed afternoon at Berg Herring (Read all about our visit here), we headed back to our abode and enjoyed another restful evening with little man hogging the enormous master bed. In the morning I took an hour to make sure I had documented all the fantastic weekend sanctuary amenities, knowing I'd want to make sure as many people as possible would know about this cozy part of the Flieureu as possibly could.
Before heading to bed that evening, I made sure to grab some snaps of the McLaren Vale night sky above Vale 194 (see image below). It was a great reminder that you don't have to go far in S.A. (or McLaren Vale) to find great views.

Owners Jodie and Brad completed construction of Vale 194 in 2023, outfitting each home with all the modern amenities anyone could need for their stay. We spent our time wanting for nothing except more time.
